PASSEMENTERIE MASTERCLASS WITH JESSICA LIGHT

Jessica is delighted to announce, in conjunction with The Heritage Crafts Association and The Goldsmith Foundation, that she will be teaching a five day passementerie masterclass this Autumn.

This workshop is intended for textile practitioners who are looking to bring these centuries old passementerie skills and techniques into their practices, therefore helping to keep this endangered heritage craft alive and in use.

This workshop is not suitable for beginners and you will need to have textile literacy and an intermediate standard of making to be able to attend. It is also not intended as a craft experience and there is a selection process as there are only eight places.

This five day corse will cover woven passementerie notation, weaving cut fringes, weaving with dummy warps to create loops and picots, cord spinning, covering moulds and trim embellishments. You will gain knowledge and get practical experience in both woven and non-woven passementerie techniques. There will also be an accompanying training film which can be accessed on the Heritage Crafts website

This is a rare opportunity to learn from one of the U.K's leading passementerie artisans, who has over 30 years of working in this fascinating trade and who as been at the forefront of creating contemporary passementerie since she set up her eponymous workshop in 2008.

Jessica was trained by Wendy Cushing and has a large cannon of historical woven trim techniques and structures from the 16th century onwards. She was taught all the passementerie woven techniques which she is now passing on to keep these precious skills alive for future generations.

When: 25 to 30 October, 10am to 4pm each day with a lunch break (lunch provided)

Cost: £300 (three free bursary places available for those from under-represented communities or facing financial hardship – subject to availability)
