In 2020, just after the first lockdown I started writting a book about the endangered centuries old techniues of the heritage craft of Passementerie. I'm well positioned to author this book as I was one of the last passementiers to be trained on the job when I worked for Wendy Cushing and have over 30 years experience working in the passementerie trade hand-weaving and making unique and contempory design-led trims and tassels.
50000 words and over 175 pictures, proof-reading, re-proof-reading and indexing later, Passementerie, Woven and Non-woven Techniques for Trims and Tassels, is finally here [well a few weeks away]. Published by The Crowood Press, this is a technical book, inspired by the old-skool weave books I had at college.
Passemneterie weaving is a very specific type of weaving that over the centuries developed it's own way of doing things and for the first time ever published this book contains the technical notation for passementerie weaving, which differs from normal weave notation.
