Introducing the new passementerie collection, Black Mountain, an ode to the weaverati, Collingwood, Mairet, Moorman et al, who shaped modern textiles with their innovative designs, material use and technical prowess. A look at modern woven ideas through the lens of technique, materiality and heritage.
Old technical weave books play a big inspirational part with their design and layout and their concentration on skills and notation. Images were often in black and white and therefore enables the creative process of the reader by them having to use their own initiative to derive personal understanding of the practices of woven methods and encourages experimentation in colour, materials and woven structure.
This collection also looks at post-modernist design and concepts. A two-fingers up to the perceived cliches of what constitutes good taste and the pomposity of Modernism. A timely take that, potentially, we could be entering an underground post-post-modernist era away from the plagiarism and repetition of social media influencer-led design trends and into a more random un-curated creative period.
The fresh colour palette was inspired by Jessica’s perusal of pointillism especially the recent exhibitions, Seurat at the Courtauld and Radical Harmony at the National Gallery, London. The colours are made to sing by the mixing of raw jute, linen and sleek shiny rayon.
